Julie & Julia

So if you know me you can probably guess that I am HIGHLY anticipating the movie Julie & Julia. It just so happens that the NYTimes wrote a very interesting piece on what it takes to create a movie about food – more than 60 deboned ducks, 25 cakes and hours and hours of experimentation so that the “accidentally” spilled souffle will make the sought after “splat” effect. The article is mainly an interview with Susana Spungen, the movie’s food stylist (who knew there was such a job? sign me up!), who previously worked as Martha Stewart’s food editor (how do you not become obese with that job?). She reveals all the hard work that went into creating the gorgeous (and mostly edible) food in the movie and how movies these days are more sophisticated in the ways they present food. The accompanying slideshow is a good sneak peek at some scenes too!

The article can be found here.
