Toujours bon appetit! – “My Life in France” by Julia Child

September 18, 2009

A friend recommended this book to me saying it was “a million times better than the movie”. Well, given how much I liked the movie, I had better read this book…

Published by Julia Child’s grandnephew, Alex Prud’homme, after Julia’s death in 2004, this memoir is inspired by Julia and Paul’s letters (to each other and family members), photographs (mostly Paul’s, 79 of which are in the book) and cooking notes (from Julia’s work on the cookbook) from their time in France from 1948 to 1954. Julia had always wanted to write the book and while her culinary adventures are a central aspect of the story, her love of France and life in general seem to be the overarching theme. Very excited to pick this up!

The New York Times has an informative review of the book here.
