Portland, ME

Portland, ME 2
Last weekend I made a quick trip up to Portland, ME and it was a wonderful two day get away. The city is so vibrant and filled with tons of little boutiques, eateries and restaurants. The NYTimes even ran a recent article about the bounty of good restaurants and gourmet food shops there, accessible here. I visited one of the restaurants they wrote about, Bresca on Middle Street, where the service was excellent , the interior cozy and charming and the food was delicious (we got honey glazed duck breast, honeycomb with pecorino romano and pumpkin soup with creme fraiche to name a few dishes).

East End Shops

The shops are so much fun too! Treehouse Toys has all sorts of old fashioned and new toys and a great costume section, Brook There is a shop stocked with handmade (you can see her workshop in the store), 100% organic clothing for women, Waterlily Imports is a trade conscious boutique with a owner who travels the world searching for beautiful things, Zane carries Barney’s Co-op like staples.. and the list goes on. The best part was that the owners of these shops were all young and local and very enthusiastic about what they did – each shop had it’s own personality and unique stock. Combine all this with a beautiful port and cobblestone streets and I think you have an unbeatable weekend away…
