Chelsea Market

February 3, 2010

Chelsea Market is a one stop shopping center for all the ingredients for an amazing dinner party – fresh fish and lobster by “The Lobster Place”, the best Italian prosciutto and ham in town by “Buon Italia”, delicious little bread rolls from “Amy’s Bread”, wine from the “Chelsea Wine Vault”, chocolates from Jacques Torres Chocolate”, cupcakes from Ruthy’s baked goods, and even flowers and kitchen supplies if you need them! This is the perfect place to while away an afternoon tasting gelato and dishes made by the iron chef himself at his restaurant “Morimoto”. You can even get some shopping done at the various book and design stores there as well (including Posman’s books and The Future Perfect – a MoMa-esque design store and 202 carrying clothes by Nicole Farhi).

The market has an entrance on 9th Avenue between West 15th and West 16th Streets and another on 10th Avenue. The Food Network has it’s offices in the space above, lucky them to hang out here on their lunch breaks! The building was redone in the 1990s and used to be home to the National Biscuit Company in the 1890s and still retains some of the old fashioned feel with exposed pipes, twisting halls and even an indoor waterfall. For a list of retailers, check out their website here.
