Fabric Rosettes

February 17, 2010

With a long weekend on my hands it seemed like a trip to the garment district for a project was in order so a friend and I set off for Sil Thread (on 38th St. between 7th and 8th) to get these sweet little rosette makers. It was so distracting there since Sil has every color of zipper, thread, fabric paint etc. that you could ever want, weird technical sewing materials (shoulder pads, bra extenders, rotary cutters) and on top of that it was packed with tons of easy projects like these rosette makers, or fabric yo-yo makers (in different shapes), hat molds… everything. Didn’t help that most of it was from Japan and very cute.

After finally settling on the rosette maker (they had three sizes, the roses in the photo above were made on the small size pattern), it took just a few minutes of work and I had my first rose. Only problem is, I’m not sure what to do with them now! In my opinion, Phillip Lim’s rosette dress from 2007 (I think?) was the best thing to ever come out of these little scraps of leftover fabric…
